Easthampton High School, Easthampton, MA

AKAL engineering was responsible for designing a HVAC and Fire Protection system for 110, 000 S.F new high school building. The structure includes classrooms, administrative offices, gymnasium, cafeteria and kitchen. Project designed was in accordance to Massachusetts high performance green school guidelines. AKAL has also performed HVAC system energy modeling and found system to be 15% better than current energy code.

Blue Plain Laboratory

WASA, Washington D.C

Project is a renovation of a two story, 13000 s.f. laboratory space. The laboratory will conduct various chemical and biological analyses. Existing laboratory requires a complete upgrade per latest code and standards. AKAL has provided a complete HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection design services. The design was in accordance to the ASHRAE 90.1-2004 and LAB21 standard guidelines.

MBTA Arborway, CNG Bus Maintenance & Repair Facility

AKAL is providing Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Services for the 342,470 s.f. CNG Bus Storage and Repair Facility, for 118 vehicles. The facility will include CNG fueling equipment, bus-washing operations, employee parking with 250 spaces, service bays and shop support facilities for operations, and 44 surface parking spaces.

Holiday Inn, San Bernardino, CA

The project consists of 6 story full service hotel at Orange
Show Rd., San Bernardino, CA. The 84,000 SF facility has 129 rooms, two meeting rooms, restaurant, bar, pool, spa, fitness center and 64,000 SF, two level indoor parking garage for 204 cars. As owner’s project manager AKAL was heavily involved during the design phase of the project and oversee the HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Electrical work.

Westborough State Hospital, Westborough, MA

The intent of this study was to reduce operating and maintenance costs associated with the existing high pressure steam central plant by either replacing it with a new low pressure steam central plant or providing individual boilers in each building of the campus. Saint Gobain, Northboro Research Center

Saint Gobain conducts high performance material testing at their test labs in Northborough. AKAL was hired to design various HVAC system upgrades. HVAC improvement includes four clean rooms (ISO Class- 8). Space Humidity and temperature control in FTS Extruder room, Fume and PH control of exhaust air through Mapco Scrubber, Ventilation system of H2 Room, Ultra pure water piping for Belino process labs. South Gate Developement, Worcester, MA

Project consists of designing a HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection system for 26 Unit apartment complex. The project has Solar Water Heater to meet the domestic hot water need for all units. Solar collector with gross solar surface area of 465 S.F will provide 110 MBH of solar heat energy to the building and thereby save 60% of the conventional energy.See a list of other housing projects by clicking here



Cranston Street Armory, RI

This is a historic building. State of Rhode Island retained a service of AKAL to aircondition the 16,000 SF space to be used for State Fire Marchal offices. AKAL designed a 36 ton VRV system. The proposed VRV HVAC system was not only very energy efficient, but also preserved the building structure from any major modification. Controls were specified for remote monitoring.
